Tony's Army Wife - surviving my first deployment

Sunday, September 16, 2007

Today is the big day. In a handful of hours I will be on my way to the base to pick Tony up!! What scares me though is I'm still not out-of-control excited. I'm sure that will all change when I'm on my way to Concord. Maybe I'm just in shock that this deployment is actually over.
I always heard from Tony's parents that his ex-wife (Corrine) might be there. When Tony was deployed the first time, Corrine cheated on him... with his younger brother. And now the two of them are engaged. I have nothing against her. And I don't mind her going there today. But she better not put her hands on my husband. She had her chance and she lost it. And as for the rest of the people who come with me today, well... they will all just have to hug around me. As soon as I get my hands on that husband of mine, I am NOT letting go. It's so hard to believe that it's been over a year since all this began. Time went by really quick. I am actually really thankful for this experience. If I could go back in time and have the option to do it all over again or skip out on it, I'd definately do it again. Some people might think that a deployment isn't such a great thing for a marriage, but I truly believe that it did our marriage a world of good. The first year is always the hardest, and to get through that on top of a deployment, I know we are going to be just fine.
I'm happy that this deployment is over, however, I am sad that this will be the last time I get to jump into Tony's arms. If you have ever been through a deployment and have been reunited with your significant other, then you understand the whole fairytale ending I'm talking about.
There's no better feeling, for me, than jumping into his arms and gazing into his eyes, forgetting that anyone and everyone else around us even exists. It's disappointing that this will be the last time that will happen, but I'm thrilled about it. No more letting go. He's home for good. I get to keep him for longer than forever!! I suppose I should start getting things ready before I run out of time!
